2. Person takes hallucinogens and his or her nightmares come back to haunt them in a blurred reality. Person becomes confused between what is reality and what is a dream. A book called A Separate Reality, by Carlos Castaneda influenced this idea. The movie Requiem for a Dream had a part similar to this.

3. A person realizes that they are dreaming and takes control of his or her dream. This is called a lucid dream. I have read about this in a few dream books and it is also brought up in the movie Waking Life.

I like the first idea the best. You would have to film the persons daily activities and then their dream in order for the viewer to find the symbolism in the dream. But thats just an idea, I am sure there are other ways of doing this.
I like the 3rd idea the most because I would like to see a movie where the dreams don't get the best of them. It would be cool to portray a strong mind that is able to decipher if it's in a dream or not and do something about it. I think that you will need some unique lighting for this movie though.
I like the second idea but do they have to be hall. ? Or can they be some other drug like in RFAD the woman is hooked on uppers to lose weight. I think this idea would have more substance than just someone taking drungs if you gave it some sense of humanity like the mom in REFAD. I am going to bring you PIE(anctually it is the math symbol) it is a move by the same director and has some similarities with RFAD but I think it would give you some more ideas about idea number 2.
